Ascending Xinping Tower

Far away from the capital, I am ascending this tower.
Who can bear the sickness of missing Chang’an in the depth of autumn?
The sky is vast and the sun is setting far off on the distant horizon;
The water being clear, the cold waves roll on and on.
Clouds rise above trees on the western-mountain ridge;
Over river dunes spread the wings of south-going wild geese,
Beneath the gloomy sky the land stretches infinitely.
I cannot but feel distressed when straining my eyes to look into the infinite distance.
